Peaceful protest in New York (Union Square) on July 14th, 2013.
New Yorkers of many different races and ages, came together in Union Square to protest (peacefully) again the "Not Guilty" verdict in George Zimmerman Trial. I could fill this post with rants about racism, facts/theories about the case, the images of Trayvon Martin & George Zimmerman that were formed based of the information given to us and spun by the media and nation wide biases, and not personal first hand accounts, speculations about what really happened on the fateful night of February 26th, 2012, but what it really boils down to is the fact that due to pure doltishness, two families will never be the same again. A mother and father will never see their teenage son again. Because of his actions a man isn't free to roam the streets anymore. So regardless of the "Not Guilty" verdict Mr. Zimmerman is in jail, not by the American Justice System, but of his own doing. For the rest of his life, he'll have to wear a hoodie and hope that he doesn't look "suspicious". Karma always catches up with us, so fret not; unless you're George Zimmerman.....
We as a community & a nation have got to do better, for Travyon Martin and those like him, i.e. Kendrick Johnson, Oscar Grant, Troy Davis, Sean Bell, Aiyanna Jones, Emmett Till, Marissa Alexander, Willie Smith Ward, and the many more who can and should be named, but most of which will never be acknowledged or fought for, and more importantly for our future.
Here are some snaps I took during the 2 protests (any reamining photos/videos will be posted at a later date):
